Setup
Each player or team takes one letter board and 25 cover buttons before the game begins.
During setup, every player or team places a plastic letter board in front of them on the table and takes exactly 25 plastic cover buttons. These buttons will be used throughout the game to mark covered letters on the board.
Setup
All 55 topic cards are shuffled and placed face-down in a central pile.
Before play begins, the 55 topic cards are arranged into a single face-down pile in the center of the table. Cards are drawn from the top of this pile one at a time as needed during turns.
Setup
The starting player is determined by rolling the standard die; highest roll wins.
All players roll the standard six-sided die. The player who rolls the highest number becomes the first player. The player sitting to the left of the starting player is responsible for operating the timer for the duration of the game.
Turn structure
At the start of your turn, roll both the standard die and the special die.
On your turn, you must roll both the standard die (1–6) and the special die. The standard die result selects which numbered topic from the topic card is used. The special die result determines the type of action you perform this turn (timed word-listing, free cover, or removal attack).
Turn structure
If the special die shows 15 or 30 seconds, flip a card and list as many topic words as possible before time runs out.
When the special die shows 15 or 30 seconds, set the timer to that duration. Flip the top topic card and identify the topic corresponding to the standard die result. Place the timer on the table — it starts automatically. Name as many different words as possible that belong to the topic. Other players act as judges and must accept each word. For every accepted word, place one cover button on the letter that word begins with on your own letter board. When the timer runs out, your turn ends and play passes clockwise.
Special
If the special die shows the free-cover symbol, place one cover button on any letter of your choice.
When the special die shows the free-cover symbol (star/bonus icon), you may immediately place one cover button on any single letter of your choice on your own letter board. No topic card is drawn and no timer is used. Your turn ends immediately after placing the button, and play passes clockwise.
Special
If the special die shows the removal symbol, spend 15 seconds removing cover buttons from a chosen opponent's board.
When the special die shows the removal symbol (attack icon), choose any other player or team as your target. Flip the top topic card and use the topic indicated by the standard die result. Set the timer to 15 seconds and start it. Within those 15 seconds, list words from that topic. For each word accepted by the other players (acting as judges), remove one cover button from the target player's letter board whose first letter matches your listed word. When the timer runs out, your turn ends and play passes clockwise.
General
Other players act as judges and must accept each listed word for it to count.
When a player lists words during their timed turn (whether covering or removing), all other players collectively act as judges. A word must be accepted by the other players to count. Disputed words may be discussed, but the majority of other players determines acceptance. Only accepted words result in a cover button being placed or removed.
