Ballad of Sleeping Giants is a tactical-level war game that can be played with a standard deck of cards. Players will battle over a shared tableau representing the battlefield. The number cards are soldiers, from lowly Assassin Ace to the mighty Giant 10, and the face cards are terrain, red Roads and black Mountains. Players start with a hand of 5 cards. Each turn, they get two actions which they can use to add a card face down to the battlefield, move a soldier, attack an enemy card (the higher card wins), reveal a card on the battlefield to use its special ability, or draw a card from the deck into their hand. Players collect defeated cards as trophies. Every soldier can be defeated, so a well-timed play or a shrewd bluff can be the key to victory! Time is ticking, so players must manage their actions well - once the deck runs out, players count their trophies and the greatest area they control, and the highest score wins! —description from the designer
