Become a Keeper of Lost Knowledge. Rescue forbidden treasures and recruit a clandestine preservation network of Smugglers during the Italian Renaissance and decide what survives. Florence, 1497. A mad monk has convinced the city that beauty is dangerous. The Bonfire of the Vanities ignites a wave of destruction that will echo across Renaissance Italy for decades. Paintings are dragged into the streets. Books vanish from shelves. Musical instruments, scientific works, luxury goods, and cultural artifacts are condemned as symbols of vanity, temptation, or dangerous ideas. Not everyone agrees with the monk. Some hide books. Some protect paintings. Some smuggle forbidden treasures across cities. The most trusted among them become Keepers. As a Keeper, you direct a clandestine preservation network dedicated to protecting the art, ideas, and discoveries that shape the Renaissance. Recruit Smugglers to your cause, decide what is worth saving, rescue forbidden treasures, and build a network capable of concealing, transporting, and preserving culture in an age of destruction. In Bonfire of the Vanities, players compete to build the most effective preservation network by rescuing artifacts and entrusting them to Smugglers with unique requirements and abilities. Some Smugglers reward carefully ordered collections, while others seek rare discoveries, specific categories, or unusual combinations. Collect rescued works, expand your underground network, and create a legacy of preservation that outlives the flames. Not every masterpiece survives. Not everything can be saved. What burns is forgotten. What survives becomes history. The player who best balances preservation, resource management, and network building will earn the most Virtue and secure their legacy as history's greatest Keeper. —description from the publisher
