Preparación

1. Give each player a park sheet and a pair of scissors. 2. Shuffle the deck of 30 park cards. Each player draws 5 park cards total: deal 2 cards face up in front of them, and keep the other 3 as a personal facedown draw pile. Return any remaining cards to the box. 3. Put all tokens (Gardener and Wildlife/Recycling) within reach of all players. 4. Give the die to whichever player visited a park most recently — they will roll first.

Flujo del turno

Each round has five phases, performed in order: 1. ROLL — The player holding the die rolls it and places it visibly in front of themselves. The number shown indicates both the number of cuts and the length of each cut all players must make this round. 2. CUT — All players simultaneously cut into their own park sheet following the cutting rules. The die result dictates each cut's exact length (measured in park square sides). Players may make cuts from any edge of the sheet or from the end of a previous cut, subject to restrictions. 3. BUILD — All players simultaneously place any park sections that have come free from their sheet onto their own face-up park cards. Sections must fit the card shapes without overlapping. If a freed section cannot be placed on either face-up park card, it must be crumpled and kept. 4. CHECK — All players check whether any of their park cards are now complete (all spaces covered). If a park card is complete, the player draws a new card from their personal draw pile (if available), places it face up, sets aside the completed card, and gains its bonus. 5. PASS — The die is passed to the next player clockwise, and a new round begins. Play continues until a player completes their fifth park card.

Puntuación y victoria

Race to completion — first player to complete 5 park cards wins. Tiebreaker: fewest crumpled sections, then largest single placed section. Solo mode uses a point-based scoring system. Puntuación objetivo: 5 Fuentes de puntuación: Completing park cards (multiplayer: race condition; solo: +3 points each), Tokens held at game end (solo: +1 point each), Largest single park section on a card (solo: +1 point per square), Crumpled park sections (solo: -1 point each), Incomplete face-up park cards (solo: -1 point each), Completed grand park cards in Solo Grand Parks mode (+5 points each)

Reglas que debes conocer

Las reglas más útiles para jugar bien la primera partida.

General

All cuts must be straight and follow the grid lines of the park squares.

When cutting your park sheet, you must cut in a straight line along the sides of the park squares. You cannot cut diagonally or in curves. Each park square has sides of length 1, and all cuts are measured in multiples of this unit.

Restriction

Each cut must be exactly the length shown on the die — no more, no less.

The die result dictates the exact length of every cut made this round. If the die shows 3, every cut must pass through exactly 3 park square sides. You cannot make a cut of a different length. You must finish each cut completely.

General

Cuts may begin from any edge of the park sheet or from the end of any previous cut.

You can start a new cut from the outer edge of the park sheet or from the endpoint of any prior cut (from any prior round or from the current round). This allows you to extend existing lines or branch in new directions.

Restriction

You cannot combine two cuts made in the same round to form a single longer straight cut.

Within a single round, if you make a cut of length 1 and then start a new cut from the end of that cut going in the same direction, this is illegal because it creates a straight cut longer than the die result. However, if the second cut turns in a different direction from the end of the first, that is legal. Cuts from different rounds may extend each other in the same direction.

Restriction

You cannot cut into a park section that has already come free from the sheet.

Once a park section has been separated from the main park sheet, it is a free piece and you may not make further cuts into it. All cuts must be made into the connected portion of the park sheet still attached to the main body.

Building

Freed park sections must be placed on your own face-up park cards without overlapping.

After cutting, any park sections that have come free from the sheet must be placed on your own park cards (the two face-up cards in front of you). Park sections cannot overlap each other on a card. Sections can be rotated and flipped in any orientation to fit. Sections must fit within the outline shape of the park card.

Restriction

If a freed park section cannot fit on either face-up park card, you must crumple it and keep it.

If a freed section cannot be legally placed on either of your two face-up park cards (because it does not fit the shape or cannot satisfy placement requirements), you must crumple it up and keep it. Crumpled sections are tracked for scoring purposes (in solo mode) and tiebreaking.

Building

Spaces marked with Pavilions, Play Areas, Water Elements, or Greenery require a park square of the matching color.

Certain spaces on park cards are marked with a feature icon (Pavilions / Play Areas / Water Elements / Greenery). You must place a park square of the matching color on each such space. The Construction Guide clarifies colors: Pavilions always contain Tents, Water Elements always contain Water, Greenery always contain Trees, and Play Areas always contain People.

Informe estratégico

Planning cuts across multiple rounds

Because you can start a new cut from the endpoint of any previous cut (including from prior rounds), you can plan multi-round shapes. Think several rounds ahead about where cut endpoints land to set up useful sections in future rounds.

Avoiding crumpled sections

Crumpled sections are a pure penalty in solo mode and hurt in tiebreakers in multiplayer. Before cutting, visualize what shape will be freed and whether it can fit your current park cards. Cuts that free awkward shapes with no valid placement home are wasteful.

Targeting Wildlife/Recycling spaces early

Wildlife/Recycling spaces require a specific icon AND must be covered by a park square bearing that icon. These are harder to satisfy than color-only spaces. Prioritize freeing sections with wildlife/recycling icons early, or earn Wildlife/Recycling tokens via park completion bonuses to gain flexibility.

Maximizing bonus chain potential

The Extra Cut bonus lets you immediately make an additional cut, which can free a section, complete a park, and earn another bonus — potentially triggering a chain. Aim to complete parks that award the Extra Cut bonus when your sheet is positioned to free a useful section.

Walkway planning

Walkway requirements demand that multiple spaces be covered by one continuous piece of paper. Plan your cuts so that the section you free is large enough and shaped correctly to span all walkway-connected spaces in a single piece. No token can substitute for this structural requirement.

Solo time management

In solo mode, one card is discarded from your draw pile every round before you roll. This means the game has a hard time limit. Prioritize completing park cards quickly to maximize your +3 point gains before the pile runs out. Incomplete cards cost -1 point each, so finishing a card is a 4-point swing (+3 completed, avoid -1 incomplete).

Token conservation

Tokens (Gardener and Wildlife/Recycling) are worth +1 point each in solo mode if unspent. Only spend them when they unlock a placement that completes a park card, as that +3 (or +5 for grand parks) far outweighs the +1 from holding the token. In multiplayer, spend freely to accelerate park completion.

Preguntas frecuentes y casos límite

I earned an Extra Cut bonus. Can the section I free from that extra cut complete another park and earn me yet another bonus?

Yes. The Extra Cut bonus says you must immediately place or crumple any freed sections. If placing one completes a park card, you earn that park's bonus immediately, which may include another Extra Cut bonus, chaining the effect.

Can I spend a Gardener token to ignore a walkway requirement — i.e., cover walkway-connected spaces with separate pieces?

No. The Gardener token only lets you ignore one color requirement. Walkway requirements (that connected spaces must be covered by a single continuous park section) are a structural placement rule, not a color requirement, and cannot be bypassed by a Gardener token.

Can I use a Wildlife/Recycling token to cover a space that requires a specific color (e.g., Greenery) with a piece that has a wildlife icon but the wrong color?

No. The Wildlife/Recycling token only lets you ignore a wildlife or recycling icon requirement, not a color requirement. To ignore a color requirement, you need a Gardener token. You could, however, use both a Wildlife token and a Gardener token together on the same space if it has both requirements.

The die shows 2. I make a cut of length 1, then start a new cut from its endpoint going in the same direction. Is this legal?

No. This is illegal. Combining two cuts in the same round to form a straight line longer than the die result is explicitly forbidden. You would need to turn in a different direction for the second cut to be legal.

Can I extend a cut from a previous round in the same direction with a cut this round?

Yes. The restriction against combining cuts only applies within the same round. You may start a cut from the endpoint of a cut made in a prior round and go in the same direction.

I cut out a section but it doesn't fit either of my two face-up park cards. Can I save it for later?

No. If a freed park section cannot be placed on either of your face-up park cards, you must crumple it up immediately and keep it. You cannot hold freed sections for future rounds.

In solo mode, the die shows a number but I physically cannot make a cut of that length anywhere on my sheet. What happens?

The game ends immediately. One of the solo end conditions is that you cannot make a cut as required by the die roll. Tally your score at that point.

In Grand Parks variant, do grand park cards go into my draw pile or are they always face up?

Grand park cards are always placed face up in front of you from the start. Only standard park cards form the facedown draw pile. At the end of setup, each player has all their grand parks revealed plus 1 standard park card face up, with the remaining standard cards as their draw pile.
