Dossier

"Black Belt is a serious two-player karate dueling card game created by a game designer with a 3rd-degree black belt in karate. Its defining feature is the intense back-and-forth mind games and tense matches that capture the feel of a real karate sparring bout. Players face off as Red and White, using decks made up of 18 technique cards. Victory Condition: The first player to claim two Ippon tokens wins. Scoring System: Depending on the technique used, attacks are judged as either Waza-ari or Ippon. Two Waza-ari count as one Ippon, so a player can also win by scoring a total of four Waza-ari, or through combinations such as two Waza-ari plus one Ippon. Actions: Players roll up to three dice to determine whether their techniques succeed. Comeback Mechanic: There is also a dramatic one-shot comeback rule that allows a player to knock out their opponent with a single blow, though it is extremely difficult to pull off." -from the publisher
