Dossier
Cryptid Smash is a fast-paced card game in which players race to be the first to play all the cards from their hand. Each card features a unique cryptid inspired by real folklore, hand-illustrated and set within the world of Kryptothera. While the objective is simple, the gameplay is highly interactive and often unpredictable. On their turn, players must play a card that matches the colour, symbol, or effect of the top card on the playing pile, or draw if they cannot. Many cards include effects that disrupt opponents, alter turn order, or force players to draw or discard cards. These effects can be chained or combined, creating escalating interactions and sudden shifts in advantage. In addition to standard cards, tactical and legendary cards introduce further variability. Tactical cards allow players to influence the flow of the game directly, such as choosing the next player or changing the active colour. Legendary cards trigger immediate, table-wide effects when drawn, regardless of turn order. The game is won by the first player to play all cards from their hand, though play can continue until only one player remains. With frequent reversals, chained effects, and constant player interaction, the outcome can change rapidly until the very final turns. —description from the publisher
