Empire of the Steppes is a sandbox, CDG, Block/Counter hybrid Wargame where three factions, Mongol Empire, Ayyubid/Mamluk Caliphate and the Christian Franks vie for supremacy through strategy, warfare and shrewd diplomacy. Empire of the Steppes can last up to twelve turns. Each turn consists of three phases. Starting with the investment phase, where players receive and spend their production on purchasing new units, upgrading existing units, purchasing cards and tactics. The strategy phase, where players can play multi use cards to play events, develop technology and invest in diplomacy. Finally there is the action phase where players can use cards to move their armies, siege castles, raise provincial units and engage in battles which are resolved through dice. Victory can be achieved in three ways. Economic Supremacy, your victory points equal 25 at the end of any turn. Victory can be achieved through conquering a enemy capital of which each player has one. If none of these conditions are met at the end of turn 12, the victory is determined by who has the highest victory points.
