Dossier

Kings and Peasants is a fast-paced card game about climbing the social ladder, stepping on egos, and doing whatever feels morally acceptable for roughly twenty minutes. Each round, players compete to get rid of all the cards in their hand as quickly as possible. The first players to empty their hands becomes the King and the Prince, while the last players become the Peasant and the Servant. At the start of each round, cards are shuffled and dealt to all players. Before play begins, players exchange cards according to their rank - the Peasants must give their strongest cards to the Kings, while the Kings return any cards of their choice (typically their lowest, for obvious reasons). The round then starts with this imbalance already in place. To give lower-ranked players a fighting chance, the game includes a set of ability cards. Some provide powerful, unique effects that can shift the outcome of a round, while others offer no benefit at all, life huh. The game continues over multiple rounds, with players constantly shifting positions in the hierarchy. The objective is simple - be the fastest to get rid of your cards and secure the highest rank as often as possible. The easiest way to win the game is to have luck on your side, if thats not an option, count cards, strategize and just do other smart things in order to not end up a peasant. —description from the designer
