Skorm

Dossier
Skorm is a medieval combat strategy board game that models ancient military tactics on a hexagonal grid. Designed to simulate historical combat formations, the game utilizes pieces representing specific battlefield units: Shieldmen, Archers, Horsemen, and a Warlord. Players command these armies across a board composed of sixty-one hexagonal tiles, aiming to execute maneuvers such as shield walls, ranged volleys, and cavalry flanking. Skorm is pure skill game with great strategic depth. Gameplay mechanics emphasize tactical positioning and directional facing. During a turn, a player may freely rotate their Shieldmen, who are impervious to both attacks and captures from the specific direction they face. Following any rotation, a player must choose to either move, shoot, or capture with one piece. Movement capabilities vary by unit type; Shieldmen and Archers move a single space, while Horsemen and Warlords can move up to two spaces. Combat is also unit-specific: Archers can shoot targets one or two tiles away without moving and can fire over other units, while the remaining piece types eliminate enemies by capturing their occupied tile. The central objective of the game requires players to either eliminate the opposing Warlord or to hold the central Gold tile with their warlord. Victory is achieved through one of three specific conditions. The "Eliminating" condition occurs when a player successfully captures or shoots the opponent's Warlord, which immediately ends the game. The "Conquering" condition requires a player to maneuver their Warlord onto the central Gold tile and survive the opponent's immediate next move. Finally, the "Dominating" condition provides an automatic victory if a player moves their Warlord onto the Gold tile when the opponent is reduced to four or fewer pieces. —description from the designer
