User summary: War Games Rules These rules were used for the Ancient games in the 1972-1975 National Wargames Championships and were officially adopted by the Society of Ancients, the special society for Ancient and Medieval wargammers. For the third edition: The third edition of these rules were used for the Ancient games in the 1972-1973 National Wargames Championships. New material provided for more varied situations for battles such as attacks on fortifications and ship to shore fighting. This edition aslo changed the ground scale and the subdivision of light infantry and super heavy cavalry troop types. For the fourth edition: The third edition of these rules were used for the Ancient games in the 1974-1975 National Wargames Championships. Minor changes to the rules were made to close up loopholes in the rules exploited in the previous two years of play. Some additional explanations were also provided to make the rules more accessible to new comers to wargaming.
