About

Leiden: The Dice Game (ライデン -チューリップ栽培の隆盛-) is a speculative game in which players take on the role of tulip merchants. Players select bulb dice and choose whether to plant them in their fields or seek the help of artisans, all while aiming to become the wealthiest merchant. The dice determine both the color used in the field and the row where players may write. Each turn, players are divided into an active player and the other players. The active player rolls five dice and applies the results to the market. Then, the active player chooses two of those dice to either color spaces in their field or mark progress with artisans. The other players each choose one die from the remaining three dice to either color spaces in their fields or mark progress with artisans. After that, the role of active player passes to the next player. Once every player has been the active player, the round ends. At the end of each round, players record which color they want to affect the market at the end of the game. The game ends after 4 rounds in a 2- or 4-player game, or 5 rounds in a 3-player game. Finally, all recorded colors are applied to determine the final value of each color. At the end of the game, players score points based on the following four categories: Progress on the artisan track The number of different colors surrounding the windmill The value of each color multiplied by the number of spaces filled in that color The largest group of orthogonally adjacent spaces of the same color The player with the most victory points wins. —description from the designer
