About
Vowelocity is a fast-paced word game in which 1-4 players roll their choice of two, three or four dice and race to create a matching word before the timer runs out. Vowels are precious so do not use more than once per word. Rolling more dice lets you collect more letters, but longer words are harder to make—especially because every word may contain no more than one vowel. Objective Create valid two-, three- and four-letter words to collect letter tiles. At the end of the game, add together the point values of all the letters you collected. The player with the highest score wins. Components 30 A-Z letter tiles, numbered 1-6 4 D6 dice 4 Vowel Rescue tokens. Letter Tiles Every letter tile displays one number, 1-6, used to determine whether the tile can be selected upon the dice roll. Setup Place all letter tiles face up in the centre of the table. Give each player one Vowel Rescue token. Place the four dice. If you plan to use a time limit, set a timer on your cell phone for 30 or 60 seconds. Choose a starting player. Taking a Turn At the beginning of your turn, choose whether to roll: Two dice to attempt a two-letter word Three dice to attempt a three-letter word Four dice to attempt a four-letter word Roll the chosen dice and immediately start your timer. You must create a word containing exactly the same number of letters as the number of dice you rolled. Selecting Letters Upon rolling the dice, choose one available letter tile for each die. The number on each selected tile must match one of the numbers rolled. Each die may be matched to only one letter tile. You may rearrange the selected letters in any order to create your word. The dice determine which letters may be selected, but they do not determine the order of the letters in the word. One-Vowel Limit Every word may contain a maximum of one vowel (A, E, I, O,U). The letter Y is treated as a consonant. Examples: VALID WORDS: AT, CAT, CAST, FROGS INVALID WORDS: ATE, FLOE, RAINS - contain more than one vowel. This rule conserves the available vowels and makes longer words more challenging. Completing a Word To complete a successful turn: Select one matching letter for each die rolled. Arrange the letters into a valid word. Say the word aloud before the timer expires. Show that each selected letter matches one of the rolled dice. Place the collected letter tiles face up in front of you. Collected tiles are not returned to the central supply. Vowel Rescue Each player begins the game with one Vowel Rescue token. Once during the game, you may spend your token to reuse one vowel tile that you previously collected. The reused vowel: Does not need to be available in the central supply Does not need to match one of the rolled dice Counts as one of the letters in your word Must still obey the one-vowel-per-word limit Remains in your collection after being reused You must still select matching tiles from the central supply for all the other dice. After using Vowel Rescue, turn the token face down or return it to the box. It cannot be used again during that game. Successful Turn When you make a valid word before time expires: Keep all newly selected letter tiles Leave them face up in front of you End your turn Pass the dice to the next player. Unsuccessful Turn Your turn is forfeited when: You cannot make a word within the time limit (if active) You use the wrong number of letters A selected tile does not match one of the dice You use more than one tile for a single die Your word contains more than one vowel Your word is successfully challenged Return any newly selected tiles to the centre. A Vowel Rescue token is spent once declared, even when the attempted word is unsuccessful. Valid Words A valid word must: Contain exactly two, three or four letters, depending on the number of dice rolled Use no more than one vowel Be found in the agreed dictionary Be spelled correctly Use each selected tile only once Valid Two-Letter Words AM, AN, AS, AT, BE, BY, DO, GO, HE, IF, IN, IS, IT, ME, MY, NO, OF, OH, ON, OR, OX, SO, TO, UP, US and WE. Challenging a Word An opponent may challenge a word before the next player rolls. Check the word using the agreed dictionary. If the word is valid, the player keeps the letters. If the word is invalid, the newly selected tiles are returned to the centre. The player scores nothing for that turn. Scoring There is no separate score for individual words. At the end of the game, add together the printed point values of all the letter tiles you collected. Each tile is counted once, regardless of how many times it may have been reused with Vowel Rescue. Ending the Game The game ends when one of the following occurs: Fewer than two letter tiles remain in the centre Every player fails to make a word during one complete round The players agree that no valid word can be created from the remaining tiles All players then total the point values of their collected letters. The player with the highest score wins. Tie-Breaker If two or more players are tied, the tied player with the most collected letter tiles wins. If there is still a tie, the tied player who collected the highest-value individual letter wins. If players remain tied, they share the victory. Solo Mode The goal in Solo Mode is to get the highest score after ten rounds of rolling and making words. Beat prior rounds. Quick Start Place all letters face up and give each player one Vowel Rescue token. On each turn: Choose to roll two, three or four dice. Start a timer. Select one matching letter for each die. Rearrange the letters to create a word. Use no more than one vowel. Keep the letters when successful. Once per game, reuse one previously collected vowel by spending your Vowel Rescue token. Add the values of all collected letters at the end. Choose your dice, beat the clock and build your score at Vowelocity! —description from the publisher
