Acerca de

Drop 16 is an abstract strategy game for two players played on a 4x4 board. Each player has a reserve of eight pieces: two knights, two bishops, two rooks, one queen, and one king. The board starts completely empty, and players take turns placing their pieces onto the board. The game offers two rule variants to choose from. In Variant A (Full Board), captures are forbidden during the placement phase. Players simply fill the board with all their pieces. Only after all 16 squares are occupied does the capture phase begin, where pieces move and capture according to classical chess rules. This variant emphasizes long-term strategy and careful positioning. In Variant B (Drop&Capture), players may either place a piece from their reserve onto an empty square or move a piece already on the board. However, a move is only allowed if it results in a capture. There are no quiet moves. Captures may target either an opponent's piece or the player's own piece. This variant rewards tactical flexibility and immediate decision-making. In both variants, there is no check or checkmate. The king moves and captures like a classical chess king but is treated as a regular piece with no special status. A captured piece is removed from the game permanently. The game ends when a player has no legal moves available. A player loses if they have no pieces in reserve and none of their pieces on the board can capture any other piece, either their own or their opponent's. There are no draws. Despite the tiny board, Drop 16 offers surprising strategic depth in both variants, whether you prefer careful construction or dynamic attack. —description from the designer
