About

From an article in "The Games We Played" by Margaret Hofer. Schley at Santiago Bay is one of a series of patriotic games inspired by the Spanish-American War. 'Schley at Santiago Bay' celebrated war hero Winfield Scott Schley while teaching players facts about the recent war. Schley, hardly a household name today, was the U.S. Navy commodore in command of the Flying Squadron during the victorious battle at Santiago. An investigation conducted 2 years after the publication of the game found Schley guilty of negligence and misconduct during the battle.
