The Melox Football Game

This is a promotional game by W.G. Clarke for their Melox Dog Foods in the 1930's. Unusually packaged in a (then) brown grocery bag. The first player to throw a six kicks off. He then throws again and moves the counter in the direction of his opponents goal, as indicated by the dice. Should the counter fall on a line bearing one of his own players, he continues to throw except where otherwise marked, namely, if the ball lands on a line marked “Foul,” which is a blue player, the Red gets the next throw. If the ball lands on a player marked “ Hands,” then the Blue gets the next throw, and if the ball lands on either player marked “ Free Kick ” then the same side gets a further throw. If the counter finishes on a line bearing an opponent, the throw passes to the other player. The method of scoring goals is for the counter to fall exactly on Line 12, but if it should fall on or go past Line 13, a goal kick is awarded, the counter being placed on Line 11, on the spots indicated. The centre line is a neutral line, and if the counter falls upon this line, the player continues to throw. The player whose team scores the most goals in 30 minutes (or in the period of time arranged) is the winner.
