Acerca de este juego

It was to be just another ordinary day at the international orbiting space station. A slight error in calculation and an errant asteroid put an end to that idyll. A deadly collision occurred... All hands on deck! The central computer has turned on the emergency power supply and displayed a list of repair instructions. Time to act! Manage your astronaut team, and bring all the damaged systems back into operation. Use your wit to move crates and tools. Delegate people for spacesuit duties in the cosmic void. Use robots for assistance. Do the tasks you've been assigned, or undermine the work of others! Will you succeed in planning your actions efficiently in tight claustrophobic spaces with zero gravity? Set in outer space, Astro Jam is a fascinating game of logic for 2-4 people. The emotions that the game releases must go hand in hand with the best of your analytical thinking skills. In Astro Jam players operate on a modular game board by playing action cards from their hands and arranging them in sequences. Using the cards, the players move their or the opponents’ astronaut tokens, use the assistance of common robots, transport crates in narrow space of the orbital station, and send themselves or other astronauts on spacesuit duty. The central computer orders tasks for the players to deliver the objects located at the station into one of three active sites crucial for the operation of the facility. In this way, the players earn points that may ensure the victory. The first player who scores 5 points wins the game.

Preparación

1. Each player chooses a team colour and takes all three Astronaut Pawns of that colour. Set aside unused Astronaut Pawns.\n2. Combine four Module Boards to create the game board in any arrangement, ensuring at least two spaces of each Module Board correspond (share edges) with two spaces of any adjacent Module Board.\n3. Randomly determine the first player.\n4. Starting with the first player and going clockwise, each player places one Astronaut Pawn on any Starting Space. Repeat until all Astronaut Pawns are on the board. (Tip: place pawns near Active Destinations for a strategic advantage.)\n5. Starting with the first player and going clockwise, each player places one Robot Pawn in any space adjacent to a CARGO Site. Repeat until all three Robot Pawns are on the board.\n6. Randomly place Item Tokens in the CARGO Sites.\n7. The last player distributes all 13 Crate Cubes into unblocked non-CARGO spaces: no more than 4 on the largest Module Board and no more than 3 on each of the other three. No Crate Cubes may be placed in CARGO Sites.\n8. Each player draws 8 Action Cards (kept secret).\n9. Place three Destination Cards face up beside the board. Randomly place one face-up Task Card and one face-up Condition Card below each Destination Card, forming three Objectives (one per Active Destination).

Flujo del turno

Each player's turn has two mandatory phases in order:\n\n1. ACTION PHASE: Play any number of Action Cards from your hand in any order to perform their actions. You must keep at least one Action Card in your hand at the end of this phase. Alternatively, you may pass and perform no actions. If you deliver the correct Item Token to its Active Destination during this phase, immediately proceed to the Scoring Phase.\n\n2. DRAWING PHASE: Discard one Action Card from your hand, then draw a number of new Action Cards from the deck equal to the Strength value of the card you just discarded.\n\nHand Limit: You may hold up to 10 Action Cards. If you ever exceed 10, draw until you have 11, discard one, and repeat until back to 10.\n\nPlay passes clockwise. After the last player finishes their turn, check if any player has 5 or more points — if so, the game ends immediately.

Puntuación y victoria

The player with the most points at game end wins. Tiebreakers: most Action Cards in hand, then highest total Strength of cards in hand, then shared victory. Puntuación objetivo: 5 Fuentes de puntuación: 1 point per Task Card scored by delivering the correct Item Token to its Active Destination, 1 bonus point per Condition Card claimed by visiting the specified Active Destination during the same delivery turn

Reglas que debes conocer

Las reglas más útiles para jugar bien la primera partida.

General

Win by being the first team to score 5 or more points by delivering Item Tokens to Active Destinations.

The objective of the game is to repair the space station by transporting Item Tokens to their correct Active Destinations. The first player (or team) to accumulate 5 or more points wins the game. Points are scored during the Scoring Phase by completing delivery objectives and meeting optional Condition Card requirements.

Restriction

Each space can hold at most one Astronaut Pawn, one Robot Pawn, or one Crate Cube — but any number of Item Tokens.

At any point in the game, a single space may contain only one Astronaut Pawn OR one Robot Pawn OR one Crate Cube. Multiple of these piece types cannot share a space. However, any number of Item Tokens may occupy the same space simultaneously, and Item Tokens can coexist with Pawns or Crate Cubes.

Restriction

A space is blocked if it contains an Astronaut Pawn, Robot Pawn, or Crate Cube. Item Tokens do not block spaces.

A space is considered blocked if it contains any Astronaut Pawn, Robot Pawn, or Crate Cube. Pawns and Crate Cubes cannot move through or into blocked spaces. Item Tokens do not block spaces and do not impede movement of any piece.

Turn structure

During the Action Phase, play Action Cards in any order to perform actions; keep at least one card in hand.

During the Action Phase, a player may play any number of Action Cards from their hand in any order they choose, performing the action described on each card. A player must retain at least one Action Card in their hand at the end of the Action Phase. A player may alternatively choose to pass and perform no actions at all. If the player delivers the correct Item Token to its Active Destination during this phase, they immediately proceed to the Scoring Phase.

Turn structure

End your turn by discarding one Action Card and drawing cards equal to its Strength value.

After completing the Action Phase, the player must discard one Action Card from their hand. They then draw a number of new Action Cards from the Action Card deck equal to the Strength value printed on the discarded card. This Drawing Phase is mandatory and ends the player's turn.

Restriction

Maximum hand size is 10 Action Cards; if exceeded, draw the 11th then discard down to 10.

A player may hold a maximum of 10 Action Cards in their hand at any time. Whenever a player would exceed this limit, they draw until they have 11 cards, then choose and discard one card. This process repeats until the player holds exactly 10 cards. The minimum hand size enforced during play is 1 card (at end of Action Phase).

Movement

Move one of your Astronaut Pawns any number of spaces in a straight horizontal or vertical line through unblocked spaces.

When playing an Astronaut Action card and choosing MOVE ASTRONAUT, select one of your own Astronaut Pawns and move it any number of spaces. Movement must be in a straight line — only horizontally or vertically, never diagonally. The pawn can only pass through and land in unblocked spaces (spaces without any Astronaut Pawn, Robot Pawn, or Crate Cube). Item Tokens do not block movement. If the pawn starts its move in a space containing Item Tokens, it may take one of those Item Tokens along with it.

Movement

An Astronaut Pawn starting its move in a space with Item Tokens may carry one Item Token along with it.

If an Astronaut Pawn begins its movement (via MOVE ASTRONAUT) from a space that contains one or more Item Tokens, the controlling player may choose to have the pawn take one of those Item Tokens along for the entire move. This also applies when a pawn is sent on a Spacesuit Shift from a space containing Item Tokens.

Informe estratégico

Pawn Deployment

Place Astronaut Pawns adjacent to or near Active Destinations during setup. Since pawns move in straight lines and deliveries require reaching Active Destinations, proximity reduces the number of Action Cards needed to complete objectives.

Drawing Phase Optimisation

Prioritise discarding high-Strength Action Cards during the Drawing Phase. Since you draw cards equal to the Strength of the discarded card, discarding a strong card replenishes your hand more effectively — keeping your options open for future turns.

Throwing for Card Draw

Deliberately throw Item Tokens along trajectories that pass through rival Astronaut Pawns. Rivals whose pawns are in the trajectory draw Action Cards — which, at 10 cards max, can force them into awkward discard decisions.

Condition Card Efficiency

Before delivering an Item Token, check whether your Astronaut Pawn can first detour to the Condition Card's specified Active Destination in the same Action Phase. Scoring 2 points instead of 1 per delivery is the fastest path to 5 points and winning.

Spacesuit Shift Disruption

Send a rival Astronaut Pawn on a Spacesuit Shift when it is poised to deliver an Item Token. This removes it from the board entirely until another Spacesuit Shift card is played, and the rival draws only 1 Action Card as compensation — a very favourable trade when blocking a scoring move.

Crate Cube Management

Use the Crate card offensively to block straight-line corridors that rivals need for movement or throws. Since pieces can only move in straight lines through unblocked spaces, well-placed Crate Cubes can severely restrict opponent options.

Minimum Hand Size Risk

Never burn all but one Action Card in a single turn just to rush a delivery. You must keep at least one card at the end of the Action Phase, and entering the Drawing Phase with a weak card leaves you with few options. Maintain a buffer of versatile cards.

Preguntas frecuentes y casos límite

Can a thrown Item Token pass through a space occupied by a Crate Cube or a rival Astronaut Pawn?

Yes. Thrown Item Tokens can pass through and into any number of spaces, including blocked spaces containing Astronaut Pawns, Robot Pawns, or Crate Cubes. However, any player (other than the thrower) whose Astronaut Pawn is in the throw trajectory draws one Action Card.

If I move a rival Astronaut Pawn with the Move Rival Astronaut card through a space with Item Tokens, can it pick one up?

No. Astronaut Pawns moved via the Move Rival Astronaut card cannot take any Item Tokens, even if their starting space contains them.

Do I need to visit the Condition Card's Active Destination during the same turn I deliver the Item Token, or can it be a different turn?

It must be during the same Action Phase. The bonus point is only awarded if you visited the specified Active Destination named on the Condition Card during the same Action Phase in which you delivered the Item Token. Otherwise the bonus is forfeited and the Condition Card is discarded.

When a pawn returns from a Spacesuit Shift, exactly where on the board is it placed?

The returning pawn is placed in exactly the space vacated by the Astronaut Pawn that is being sent out on the new Spacesuit Shift. The two pawns effectively swap positions between the board and the board edge.

Can I use a Spacesuit Shift card to send a Robot Pawn outside the station?

No. Only Astronaut Pawns can be sent on a Spacesuit Shift. Robot Pawns, Crate Cubes, and Item Tokens cannot be sent outside the station.

A player reaches 5 points mid-round. Does the game end immediately or after the round finishes?

The game end is only checked after the last player in clockwise order finishes their turn. Even if a player reaches 5 points mid-round, the remaining players in that round still take their turns. The game ends after the last player's turn if any player then has 5 or more points.

Can I use the Swap card's STEAL action to take an Item Token from a space occupied by a rival Astronaut Pawn?

Yes. The STEAL action allows your Astronaut or Robot Pawn to take an Item Token from any adjacent space, even if that space is occupied by a rival Astronaut Pawn or Robot Pawn. If the space belongs to a rival Astronaut Pawn, that pawn's owner draws 1 Action Card as compensation.

After the Drawing Phase, I have more than 10 cards. What happens?

You must apply the hand limit rule: draw until you have 11 cards total, choose and discard one, and repeat until you hold exactly 10 cards. The hand limit applies after all card draws.

Can Item Tokens and Crate Cubes occupy the same space?

Yes. Since Item Tokens do not count toward the one-piece-per-space limit (which applies only to Astronaut Pawns, Robot Pawns, and Crate Cubes), any number of Item Tokens can share a space with a Crate Cube.
