About

Itadaki Todofuken is a real-time dexterity and geography game in which players race to grab pieces shaped like Japan's prefectures with chopsticks. At the beginning of the game, all 49 prefecture-shaped pieces are spread across the center of the table. The reader draws a prefecture card, checks it privately, and announces the name of the prefecture. All other players then race to pick up the corresponding piece using their chopsticks. The first player to successfully pick up the correct piece keeps it. Picking up the wrong piece carries no penalty, and another player may take the correct piece while someone else is still struggling to lift it. If several players grab the same piece and it can no longer move, the player who grabbed it first receives it. The player who collected the piece becomes the next reader, and play continues in the same manner. When all 47 prefecture cards have been read, the player with the most pieces wins. If several players are tied, they share the victory. For a more difficult game, the reader does not reveal the card after announcing the prefecture. Experienced players can also announce the prefectural capital or one of the facts printed on the card instead of reading the prefecture's name. The game includes separate pieces for Sado Island and Awaji Island. These may be collected when Niigata Prefecture or Hyogo Prefecture is called, respectively, and each counts as one piece.
